FAQs
- How much do you charge and why don’t you offer set price interior design deals on your website?
The reason why we don’t offer packaged interior design deals is because each interior design project is completely different. Here at Atelier Konte we price and charge each project in 3 stages, as per our process:
1/ Brief and Site Survey – We determine the set amount chargeable for brief and survey following the initial free meeting or virtual call. This initial interaction is there so that we can establish the scale of the project and time needed for the detailed brief and measuring of the site. Providing existing architectural drawings can reduce this charge to as little as £200. The payment for brief and site survey is paid in full and in advance.
2/ The Design Presentation – Our initial meetings and interactions will also guide us on determining what type of design presentation will be appropriate for the project. For example, the decision to create a set of drawings and 3D visuals and photo realistic renders is based on the project’s complexity, client expectations, budget and communication needs. While drawings and renders can enhance clarity and visualization, they may not always be necessary if the project primarily involves cosmetic enhancements and the client is comfortable with verbal descriptions and sample boards and sketches. If however the project involves significant changes to the layout, such as removing walls, changing doors and windows openings or simply installing large bespoke built-ins; having drawings and visuals is imperative. Our Design Presentation can cost as little as £500 per room. The payment is paid in full and in advance. One free revision is included in this charge. After the design has been signed off, clients can project manage the planning and installation by themselves or they can hand over the project management to us.
3/ Planning and Implementation – Atelier Konte ‘s charging structure is extremely fair and completely transparent.
Here at Atelier Konte we pride ourselves at being transparent and are guided by a strong code of ethics. This means that the wide access that we have to trading discounts is shared with our clients, which can greatly reduce their overall cost. Sharing trading discounts with clients helps mitigate potential conflicts of interest between us and them for several reasons:
- Transparency: When we openly share the trading discounts we receive from suppliers or vendors, it demonstrates transparency. Our clients are informed about any financial benefits we are receiving as a result of the purchases made for the project. This transparency builds trust and ensures that our clients have a clear understanding of the financial aspects of the project.
- Alignment of Interests: By passing on discounts to clients, we align our financial interests with those of our clients. This way we both have a shared goal of reducing project costs and obtaining the best value for their investments. This alignment also minimizes the perception of us as designers benefiting disproportionately from supplier relationships.
- Client Savings: Sharing discounts directly benefits our clients by reducing the overall project cost. This can be a significant financial advantage for our clients and reinforces Atelier Konte’s commitment to helping achieve their design goals within their budget.
- Enhanced Client-Designer Relationship: Demonstrating a commitment to fair and transparent practices strengthens the client-designer relationship. Our clients feel that they can trust us and are valued by us, and this is why we are completely open about financial matters.
- Why do we need a set of drawings and 3D visuals for our interior design project? Can’t we just reduce the overall cost by not including them?
The decision to create a set of drawings and 3D visuals is always based on the project’s complexity, client expectations, budget, and communication needs.
Even for what may seem a straight forward interior design project, drawings and 3D visuals play a pivotal role in ensuring that the design is executed accurately, efficiently, and to the satisfaction of both the designer and the client. They provide a clear roadmap for the project, facilitate effective communication, and help prevent costly errors or misunderstandings during the design and construction process.- Accurate Measurements: Drawings include precise measurements of the space, which are essential for ensuring that furniture, fixtures, and other elements fit correctly. Without accurate measurements, there’s a risk of purchasing items that are too large or too small for the space.
- Clarity of Design Intent: Drawings provide a visual representation of the design concept. They help communicate the designer’s vision to the client and other parties involved. This clarity ensures that everyone working on the project understands what the final result will look like and what to expect.
- Coordination with Contractors: If contractors or builders are involved in the project, drawings serve as a reference for them. They provide detailed information about the placement of electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, and any other construction-related elements. This coordination is crucial to ensure that the design is executed correctly.
- Material and Finish Selection: Drawings include notes and specifications regarding materials and finishes. This information helps in selecting the right materials for flooring, wall coverings, paint colours, and more, ensuring that they align with the design concept.
- Cost Estimation: Drawings are essential for estimating project costs accurately. Contractors and suppliers can use the drawings to provide more precise quotes for labour and materials. This helps clients budget effectively and minimizes the risk of cost overruns.
- Permitting and Regulations: In some cases, interior design projects may require permits from local authorities. Drawings are typically necessary to obtain these permits, as they demonstrate compliance with building codes and regulations.
- Visualization: Drawings help clients visualize the design before construction or implementation begins. This can be especially valuable for clients who may have difficulty understanding the design concept.
- Quality Control: Having a set of drawings allows for quality control during the construction or implementation phase. The drawings serve as a reference to ensure that the work being done aligns with the design intent.
- Documentation: Drawings serve as a documented record of the design. They can be referenced in the future if there are questions or changes to be made to the space.
- We’ve never worked with an interior designer before, how much involvement from us will you need?
We understand that clients who have never worked with a designer before may have questions about the level of involvement required. The extent of your involvement can vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project, your preferences, and the specific services you’ve hired us for. Here’s a general overview of the types of involvement you can expect:
- Initial Consultation: We’ll begin with an initial consultation to discuss your goals, preferences, budget, and any specific requirements you have for the project. Your input during this phase is crucial for us to understand your vision and objectives.
- Inspiration and Concept Development: we may ask you to provide inspiration images or share your ideas about the style and look you want to achieve. Your input helps shape the initial design concepts and direction.
- Decision-Making: Throughout the project, you’ll be involved in decision-making. This includes selecting materials, finishes, furniture, and decor items. We’ll provide guidance and recommendations, but your preferences and final ‘written’ approval are essential.
- Feedback and Collaboration: Collaboration is key to a successful project. We’ll present design concepts and proposals for your review and feedback. Your input allows us to refine the design to align with your vision.
- Budgeting and Financial Decisions: You’ll need to be actively involved in budget discussions. We’ll work together to establish a realistic budget, and you’ll make decisions about where to allocate resources based on your priorities.
- Site Visits: Depending on the project’s scope, there may be site visits involved. Your presence or accessibility during these visits can be helpful for clarifications and decision-making.
- Communication: Open and clear communication is vital. You’ll need to be responsive to emails, calls, or messages to ensure that the project progresses smoothly. Promptly addressing questions or concerns can prevent delays.
- Final Approval: Your final approval will be needed at various stages of the project, such as before ordering materials or furnishings, and before making any significant changes to the design plan.
- Access to the Space: You’ll need to provide access to the space for measurements, assessments, installations, and other necessary tasks. Ensuring a clear and unobstructed workspace is essential.
- Project Timeline: It’s helpful to be aware of the project timeline and any milestones or deadlines. Being prepared to make decisions within reasonable timeframes can help keep the project on schedule.
- Trust and Collaboration: Trusting the designer’s expertise and collaborating openly can enhance the design process. While your involvement is crucial, it’s also important to allow the designer creative freedom within the established parameters.
- What if we have no inkling of what our style and overall vision is?
As an interior design studio, we understand that not everyone has a clear idea of their style and overall vision for the space, and that’s perfectly normal. Many clients start the design process with a sense of what they like but may not have a well-defined style or vision. We are here to help you discover and define your unique style and create a vision for your space. Here’s how we can assist you:
- Discovery Process: We’ll begin the brief with a thorough discovery process to get to know you better. We’ll ask questions about your lifestyle, preferences, and any design elements you may already like. This conversation helps us understand your needs and aspirations for the space.
- Inspiration Gathering: We can help you gather inspiration from various sources, such as magazines, websites, or social media platforms like Pinterest. By curating images and examples that resonate with you, we can start identifying common themes and elements that appeal to your taste.
- Mood Boards: Based on our discussions and your collected inspiration, we can create mood boards that showcase different design styles, colour palettes, and materials. These visual representations can help you explore different directions and narrow down your preferences.
- Design Consultation: We will provide guidance and recommendations throughout the process. We’ll share insights on design principles, functionality, and current trends to help you make informed decisions.
- Design Presentations: We’ll present design concepts and ideas to you, allowing you to see how different styles and elements can come together in your space. You can provide feedback, and we’ll iterate on the designs until we achieve a look and feel that resonates with you.
- Collaboration: Collaboration is key to discovering your style. Your input and feedback are essential in shaping the design.
- Do we need to prepare for our initial brief meeting and if so, what will you need from us?
As an interior design studio, we greatly value your input and collaboration in creating a design that suits your vision and needs. While you don’t need to be an expert in design, there are a few things you can do to prepare for our initial brief and help us understand your project better. Here’s what we will need from you:
- Project Goals and Objectives: Think about what you hope to achieve with this project. Are you looking to renovate, redecorate, or design a new space? Are there specific functional requirements or problems you want to address?
- Budget Range: It’s very important to be opened about your budget range for the project. This allows us to tailor our design recommendations to align with your financial goals.
- Inspiration and Preferences: If you have any images, magazine clippings, or online references that showcase styles, colours, or design elements you like, please bring them to the meeting. These references help us understand your preferences and style.
- Lifestyle and Needs: Consider how you and your family use the space. Do you have specific lifestyle needs or functional requirements? For example, if it’s a kitchen, do you love to cook and need sufficient workspace and storage? Understanding your daily routines and habits helps us create a space that works for you.
- Timeline: If you have a desired timeline or any specific deadlines for the project, please let us know. This information helps us plan accordingly and ensure that the design process aligns with your schedule.
- Any Special Requests or Concerns: If you have any specific requests or concerns about the project, such as incorporating eco-friendly materials or addressing accessibility requirements, please share them with us during the initial brief.
- Previous Design Experiences: If you’ve worked with designers or had previous design experiences, it’s helpful to share your past experiences, both positive and negative. This information helps us understand your expectations and tailor our approach to your preferences.
- Key Decision-Makers: If there are multiple decision-makers involved in the project, please identify them. Knowing who will be making final decisions and who needs to be included in the design process is important for a smooth collaboration.
- Questions and Concerns: Don’t hesitate to bring up any questions or concerns you may have about the design process, budget, or any other aspect of the project. We’re here to address your inquiries and provide clarity.
During our initial brief, we will discuss these aspects in more detail and gather additional information as needed. Our goal is to create a design that not only meets your functional needs but also reflects your style and vision. Your active participation and open communication are essential to achieving a successful and satisfying design outcome.
- Does the involvement of your services mean the project will run for longer?
The involvement of our interior design services does not necessarily mean that your project will run for a longer duration. In fact, our expertise and experience are valuable assets that can contribute to a more efficient and well-executed project timeline. Here’s how our involvement can actually help streamline the process:
- Effective Planning: We start by thoroughly planning and strategizing the design process. This upfront planning ensures that every detail is considered and allows us to make informed decisions, reducing the likelihood of delays.
- Access to Resources: We have a wide network of suppliers, vendors, and craftsmen. This network allows us to source high-quality materials and furnishings efficiently, which can reduce lead times.
- Budget Management: We work closely with you to establish a realistic budget for your project. Throughout the design process, we help you allocate your budget effectively, preventing costly overruns and financial surprises.
- Quality Control: We monitor the quality of materials and workmanship to ensure that they meet high standards. This proactive approach minimizes the need for rework or corrections that can extend the project timeline.
- Effective Communication: We facilitate clear communication among all project participants, including you, contractors, and suppliers. This communication ensures that everyone understands the project requirements and timelines, reducing misunderstandings and delays.
- Timely Decision-Making: We guide you through decision-making processes, helping you make timely choices regarding materials, finishes, furnishings, and design elements. This prevents indecision-related delays.
While the involvement of us may add a phase of planning and design to the project, this phase is critical for achieving a successful outcome. Our role is to minimize potential setbacks, optimize project efficiency, and ensure that the final design aligns with your vision and goals.
Ultimately, the project’s duration depends on various factors, including its complexity, size, scope, and any unforeseen circumstances. However, with our expertise and project management skills, our goal is to deliver a well-executed design project within a reasonable and efficient timeline.
